The
recent research and survey by the joint team of Wildlife Conservation Division,
UWICE, Bumdeling Wildlife Sanctuary of DoFPS, Butterfly Society of Japan and

and protection efforts from the government.
"Inclusion of the butterfly in the Schedule I means listing it under the totally protected species"
During
the presentation of the findings by the joint research and survey team
yesterday, the house proposed that the rare and endemic butterfly be included
in the list of Schedule I in the Forest and Nature Conservation Rules (FNCR).
Inclusion of the butterfly in the Schedule I means listing it under the totally
protected species. FNCR states that, “regardless of any provision of these
Rules or of any schedules, Technical Regulations or other documents, all
species listed in Schedules I shall be totally protected throughout their range”.
This may be done with the issuance of the Executive Order by the Hon’ble
Minister for Agriculture and Forests.
The
current thriving habitat of the butterfly falls within the Bumdeling Wildlife
Sanctuary. It was also proposed that the habitat be declared as core zone of
the park areas which will help maintain status-quo of the butterfly habitat.
"Inception of Bhutan Glory garden to house the rare butterfly & for visitors to see "
Such activity will
help inform and educate the general public about its rarity and the importance. All
these activities are spearheaded towards boosting the conservation or the
protection of the rare and beautiful Butterfly of Bhutan.
